Veteran Feeds
Veteran horses often require a more nutritionally dense feed as their digestive system is not at its best. You should take special care during the winter because as temperatures drop, your veteran may lose weight quite rapidly because he is using up more calories to maintain his body temperature. If insufficient energy is supplied from his diet, it will be taken from his own body fat stores. Weight will then begin to drop off and he may also begin to feel stiff in the colder weather. If he has problems with chewing because of poor teeth, you may have to soak his feed to ensure that he is getting vital vitamins and minerals.
