How to measure your horse
You should have a record of your horse's weight. Weighbridges are available at professional yards and some equine veterinary surgeries, but, alternatively, a simple weigh tape is available from feed merchants. This measures your horse's girth and estimates its weight. If you cannot access either of these methods, try the following with an ordinary tape measure:
Measure, in cm, from the point of your horse's shoulder to the point of the buttock (length) and his girth. Then work out this simple formula with a calculator:
Weight(kg) = ((Girth(cm) x Girth(cm)) x Length(cm)) / 11,877
