Triple Top-Up For Endurance

Triple Top-Up from Badminton Horse Feeds was developed in the 1990's for the endurance rider and is still very much involved with the sport today with the continued sponsorship of the Little Lindum 100km race at Market Rasen racecourse.

Most of the work required from a horse is aerobic and the fuel source for aerobic exercise comes from digestible fats. The inclusion of fats, in the correct ratio to carbohydrates, will ensure maximum staying power and long-term stamina. A large number of endurance horses are Arabs. They do not cope well with starch, so Triple Top-Up (26% oil) is an ideal way to provide calories, as fat contains over twice the calories of carbohydrate cereals.

Feeding digestible fats at the start of the training programme will allow a horse to develop metabolic pathways to utilise proportionally more fat at a higher level of activity. This has the added bonus of sparing precious glycogen reserves and consequently lowering lactic acid build up. It also enables a horse to recover more quickly from strenuous exercise thus enabling him to be trained harder and achieve even greater fitness.

Triple Top-Up is a palatable golden meal, based on quality soya with added coconut oil and lecithin, as a fat emulsifier, as well has high levels of Vitamin E. This is really a case of when a little is more. By adding Triple Top-Up to the horse's diet, owners are increasing the energy density, allowing less concentrate to be fed.
